Okay in an average RPG,there are terms to know. So,I decided to be nice enough to post some information on some of them.
----------
OOC--Out of character. When you see this,it probably means that a member is speaking out of character. This can concern anything about a thread your RPing in,or it just means 'out of character' as in your not speaking as a character.
IC--In character. This is the general opposite of OOC. You might see this in an Rp post if the person you are Rping with had put an OOC note,and then to prevent confusion put 'IC' afterwards to show that they have gone back to Rping their character.
RPG--Role Playing Game. This is a term,hopefully known to those who join here. It is a form of gaming when multiple people assume the role of a character other than themselves. It is usually fictional,though. There are many different types of Rping such as a popular example,Dungeons and Dragons. Forums based upon Rp are different,because every type of forum does something different,and usually always have a subject that the RPG itself is based upon.
Forum roleplays are normally written out like an essay. Some forums require for one to write past-tense. It differentiates from forum to forum,no doubt about it. The most common form of Rp posts that are made are like this example below,though it is a short one.
I am Rping Alphonse for an example;
Alphonse was walking down the streets,to Edward's right. It was raining this afternoon,the most common time where Al would adopt a cat beyond his older brother's permission. They passed an alleyway,where Al saw a small black kitten sitting in a recycled orange crate,waiting for somebody to find and adopt her. Al stopped,and sneakily took the cat from the crate and inside his armor.
It's a good idea to take note on a character's actions,appearance,and the time of day,where they are,and who they are around. There is always plenty of things to write about,so don't limit yourself on the crawling minimum of one paragraph for a post.
---------------
Godmodding/Playing God etc.--This is referred to a common situation where a one person would control a character that isn't theirs. This includes moving another character you don't claim, and choosing what the effect is for them against the will of the person who plays the opposing character when they are attacked. This is clearly against the rules,and is unfair for the other person.
Metagaming--Similiar to Godmodding,metagaming is when you use an attack on another character that immediatly kills him or her. This is against the will of the other player,because they never said whether the character would die from the attack or not.
Perfect Characters/Mary Sues etc.--A character that cannot and will not die,or be injured in anyway possible. This also includes having attacks that can cause extreme damge to an opponent,and having no drawbacks on a character whatsoever. You are given the chance to dodge or let your character be hit by an attack,but you must know that one should be hit by an attack sooner or later. Every character should have a drawback,regardless. When it comes to an attack that has a high possibility of hitting a character,you should keep it in consideration to allow damage to your character.
